Controlling or even eliminating type two diabetes through diet and exercise is simple but it is not easy. If it were easy no one would have type two diabetes. It is too bad that the diabetes pharmaceutical companies, magazines, special interest groups, etc. do not do more to stress the importance of diet and exercise. Instead they tell people which drugs might help them. I dont know how many type two diabetics take insulin but I dont think its most of them.
People with type one diabetes have the potential for the same types of devastating long term side effects of the disease as with Type 2, but it has a completely different cause. A type one diabetic does not make insulin and will die without it.
The comparison I always use is:
Driving is VERY complicated, especially in a big city. But it is VERY easy to do. Even 16-year-olds are allowed to get a driver's license.
Controlling weight/diabetes is VERY simple. But it is VERY difficult to do.
