Oh they probably were. Saw it first hand, but figured since nobody could come visit, they'd sweep it under the carpet, and it would be all over and done with by the time anyone from outside was allowed to come in. Didn't want to have to call the police to report it. That would mean they'd have to fill out paperwork, and answer questions, and that would mean fines, and such for allowing it to occur. Can't have that happen.

I imagine nursing home workers are in a similar situation. If they see signs of abuse they are no doubt required to report it to a supervisor. What the supervisor does with the info...that’s something else. If they’re a part of ‘management’ they might not be too eager to report the abuse, because that will make the facility ‘look bad’.
The fact that it took a week and several beatings before this became known, means that someone who works there is going to find himself/herself is serious legal trouble.
