“Look, I know your anger, but recusal was required by law,” Sessions wrote. “I did my duty & you’re damn fortunate I did. It protected the rule of law & resulted in your exoneration. Your personal feelings don’t dictate who Alabama picks as their senator, the people of Alabama do.”

I’ve brought up the Trump/Sessions feud a couple of times and have been told that it’s all a show, and that this is all part of the plan. I’m not denying that’s the case, but if it is, then there’s some other agenda here that we’ve all missed. Otherwise there’s too much about the current Session/Trump squabble that doesn’t make sense.
I understand there might be a need to establish distance between the two of them if Sessions is to play a major role in future events. But mucking up the Alabama Senate contest? What’s the agenda here? Why is Sessions running, and how is that part of the plan? I’m not saying it’s not. I just don’t understand it.

I agree, mbrfl. I’ve weighed in on this before so forgive the repetition. Either President Trump has genuine animus towards Sessions, or it’s all an elaborate act that someone considers necessary for future optics. Whichever it is, this particular pas de deux is hard to watch.
If this is confusing for us, it must be worse for the people of Alabama who see a President they like tearing down one of their all-time favourite senators.
