That was pretty much anticipated, he was warned not to go several times. And then when the first bomb attack failed to kill him, he was told to get out of town immediately. But he insisted on visiting his injured aides in the hospital. His driver got lost on the way, and picked an alley to turn the car around next to where one of the plotters was drinking a beer. Princeps shot and killed both Ferdinand and his wife Sophie.

So many things had to go wrong, yet somehow they did. And we’re still living with some of the leftover crap from that war.
