Really? Who said that they do not feel sad at the death of a PET? My point is, that far too many people have more feelings towards an ANIMAL than they have towards a fellow Human Being.
This is a fact.
And, it is disturbingly wrong. There are far too many people that do not have Children of their own who outwardly state that their PETS are their CHILDREN. Do you find this NORMAL? I don’t have ANIMAL CHILDREN. I have PETS. Do you disagree?

Did you ever consider some people can’t have kids and don’t have the money to adopt? So what if they make a cat, dog, bird or whatever their replacement?
Many functioning people with fufilling lives think of their dog or cat as family.
Not sure what your issue is about this?

I have loved our pets and cried when they died. I never understood what the big deal was until our first cat died. I look at our older dog that still acts like a pup - but he can’t act like a pup as long as he used to. Makes me sad to think when he will be gone.

But yeah - he isn’t my “child”.

What always bothers me is in a movie where people are getting killed left and right (including the good guys) and okay, it was sad that the good guy’s wife died, but the movie continues. But then when the guy’s dog gets killed a few scenes later there will be an audible reaction when the guy’s dog gets killed.

I think there is an “ethics” question that asks “If your dog and a stranger are drowning in a river, and you can only save one - which one do you save?”
