At last! Harry and Meghan are paying us back for Frogmore - but it will take years as they hand over £18,000 a month for rent and first repayments on the £2.4m renovations

Their sweet fragrance drifts across the lawns and grounds of the five-bedroom home that the Queen gave her and Prince Harry as a wedding present. For the house and gardens are being perfectly maintained by staff from nearby Windsor Castle, should the couple ever wish to visit. But that's unlikely any time soon. Frogmore stands empty as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain happily ensconced in their £14.5million, 12-bedroom villa – 5,400 miles away in Hollywood – where they are living rent-free.

Couldn’t the National Trust or whoever owns the place just sell it to the highest bidder?

Likely the taxpayers. Which would mean the Windsors are using taxpayer money to pay back the taxpayers.

So they flipped their spending spree into a decade-plus long, multimillion loan.

The couple are living rent-free in a California mansion. They should be declared to the IRS by the couple as U.S. income as it is extremely valuable to live in a luxurious mansion in Southern California without having to pay for it.

The rental value would likely be deemed a non-taxable gift to the grifters, not taxable income, since it's presumably not in exchange for goods or services. As such, Perry would have to file a gift tax return if the value exceeded the annual gift tax exclusion of $15k, which it no-doubt would. Whether Perry would have to actually pay tax would depend on whether he had any of his estate and gift tax unified credit still available.

the “Perrys” of this world have a “special relationship “ with the IRS and Fed.gov that most of us could never even imagine much lest enjoy.

SS numbers/medicare/SS benefits/audits are a foreign language to those folks
