...on April 16th, Jill Nelson, a 67-year-old writer, left her apartment on Riverside Drive to run a few essential errands.(snip)... she passed a boarded-up storefront, and wrote Trump = Plague in pink chalk. Seconds later, she was in handcuffs, she told us.
Before I could step back and see my handiwork, two police SUVs roared up on either side of me, and blocked me in, Nelson told the Rag. Four officers jumped out: What are you doing? Why are you doing that? Do you own this building? Do you have a weapon?
They roughly cuffed me, took my purse, and shoved me into the back of an SUV. I was taken to the 33rd Precinct and put in a cell at about 1 p.m. I was never read my rights.(snip)
Nelson has been charged with graffiti, a misdemeanor, and was held at the 33rd Precinct for more than five hours.(snip)...they werent going to let me out because I didnt have a picture ID,(snip)
During a phone call that Nelson claims was cut short by an NYPD officer, she was unable to communicate her whereabouts to her husband, Flores A. Forbes,(snip)
Eventually, Forbes arrived, having given up on the squad car and determined his wife was almost certainly at the 33rd Precinct.
They had a plastic evidence bag and I saw my license, from my cell, Nelson said.(snip)
It wasnt until 6:37 p.m. that Nelson was able to leave the precinct, and not without a stern reminder as to her impending day in court, she said.
When I left, the desk sergeant, who was of African-American descent, said, you better show up, because if you dont were going to come to your house and arrest you.
On her way home, Nelson noticed that Trump = Plague had already been smudged away.

Feel good story of the day.
Really? Tyranny is a feel-good story?
I get your point, but when a leftist has it happen to them, it’s so rare, I enjoyed it a little, sorry.
And then when they come for you?
Sounds very unlikely, and suspect.
I’m not likely to be chalking Trump = plague on anything.
I dare ya... Go write Obama = #igg#r...
Talk to me about free speech.
Besides, free speech doesn’t mean I get to paint, chalk, mark up property that is NOT mine.
This “victim” is a grandstander.
Like what?
First lie of the story. With or without quarantines she needed to be arrested.
Who carries pink chalk with them when they are going out to "run a few essential errands"?
Liberal or not, this was BS!
She was writing on a temporary plywood barrier closing up a building construction area...........
Someone who plans something stupid to get attention.
I don’t deface any body’s property. And I lived in NYC for a long time before moving out. I am not fond of graffiti writers. They are a plague. They deface everything.
I agree. To picture some granny-aged, arrogant lib get busted pulling an immature teenage stunt is somewhat satisfying.
And who goes out anywhere in public w/o a picture ID? She created her own mess.
If only you had used a /s tag!
When i run errands, essential or not, i have never stopped to chalk a political message on someone else’s sidewalk or property. I also have never carried a piece of chalk with me running errands.
The two are mutually exclusive.
This seems to be a case of someone getting the government they deserved, per the aphorism. Let’s hope it will be self-correcting.

Why do you doubt this upstanding citizen. Surely you also, like all of us, always carry pink chalk when you leave your house to run essential errands.
What would have been the appropriate response if this was over the top? I am with you in regards to graffiti.
