A woman suffered burns after falling into a thermal feature at Yellowstone National Park on Tuesday, according to the park officials.
Yellowstone has been closed to visitors since March 24 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The woman illegally entered the park, the National Park Service (NPS) said in a statement.
She told park rangers she was backing up to take pictures when she fell into a thermal feature at the Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most famous geysers in the world.
Hot springs have injured or killed more people in Yellowstone than any other natural feature, reads the parks website. It also warns visitors to stay on the boardwalks and trails in these thermal areas.
After falling, the woman, who was not identified by park officials, was able to get in her vehicle and drive through the park when she was contacted by rangers. Due to her injuries, she was life-flighted to the Burn Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, park officials said.
The Old Faithful Geyser erupts about every 90 minutes, according to the NPS, and the average water temperature is 169.7 degrees Fahrenheit.
The womans condition is unknown at this time. NPS said it is continuing to investigate this incident and is not sure which thermal feature she fell into.

She shouldn’t be allowed back into that park, though they probably don’t keep a list of visitors. And she better not be thinking of suing anybody. T’was her own fault.
Shes lucky she didnt fall into that (very) hot springs pool that can cook you alive and then dissolve your corpse to nada.
is a “thermal feature” a steaming hole in the ground?
A likely story.
She might have been freebasing.
She almost became Forest Lobster.
Absolutely zero sympathy, her absence from the gene pool will be of general benefit.
Do stupid things, win stupid prizes.
So, what were these people running to get a picture of? A huge grizzly bear! There are a lot of stupid people in this world.
And the Bear was trying to solve the stupid people problem!
Fewer stupid people & the bear gets to eat!
Win-win if you ask me!
“her absence from the gene pool will be of general benefit.’
She drove for assistance. I believe she is still able to contribute.
It most certainly is.
And Yellowstone, which happens to sit atop a MEGA volcano, is absolutely lousy with them.
...which all have combined to impress the H... out of sentient beings for centuries...
..or occasionally parboil/vaporize the Darwin Award types.
(I seem to recall that The Park bags one or two a year with the springs and the bears get a couple more fools...)
If she wasn’t hot before, she is now.
Will they be euthanizing this particular thermal feature when their investigation is complete?
Dr. Darwin, Dr. Charles Darwin - please pick up the white courtesy phone...
Theres a park called Lassen volcanoes national Park just east of Redding and Ive spent many a happy day sitting in thermal Fiissures where are you follow the fumerole and it forms a hot river and you keep walking down river until it gets down to about 110° and then you jump in
All of these are nowhere near a road and have no fences around them and nothing else to stop you
She later died of COVID-19.
