The Spanish Flu: The Greatest Pandemic of the 20th Century
My Grandmother died of that flu in 1918 when my Dad was only 5 months old.
My mom was born in 1918, and her first name was adapted from her mom’s brother, and her middle name was her mom’s sister’s name. Both died from the pandemic.
So many young died of that flu. In which state did they live. Mine were here in Colorado.
My stepdad’s mother died when he was 2. Given the time frame, I’m pretty sure it was from the Spanish flu.
My grandmother also died from that flu when my dad was very young.
And COVID-19 is NOT Spanish Flu! Just sayin’!
So many young mothers... ..
My mom was born in Minnesota - but the deceased Uncle and Aunt lived in rural Norway. They were in their 20’s I think.
I enjoy going through old grave yards during my travels and find many that are far off the beaten path. It is always sad to see the young ones that died in 1918 or 1919.
I forget now, but I’ve seen other clusters of dates (1883 or whatever) with babies and figured it must have been some other type of sickness that went through.)
25% of those infected died from the Spanish flu... 50 million deaths when the earths population was roughly 1.8 billion... Around 3% of the earths population was wiped out.
This piss-ant virus isn’t even imaginably close on any scale.
Scarlet fever maybe... A lot of old death records say ‘consumption’... And that covered pretty much any respiratory illness including pneumonia, flu, or any bug that came along.

Thanks for your interesting response.
I would go through old grave yards with my aunt who was doing research and we noticed the same things as you. “Sarah, beloved daughter May 3 - May 11, 1918” etc.
I remember clusters of dates, too.
