Do women like this even exist anymore? If they do, they are probably involved with very wealthy men.
Why would men most opt to pay for a long term mistress, when there are plenty of other options now?
There are plenty of available, self supporting women. There are also more women now involved in open marriages, whatever that may mean.
You are assuming that men who are involved in arrangements like this dont have spousal consent.
I think that marriages among the very wealthy are sometimes very different than for us common folk.
Do we still get to call him a “sugar daddy”?
A booty call is a generic term that applies to certain sexual events, although it is usually associated with a man hooking up with a woman for the express purpose of having sex. Marital status or an illicit affair is not implied by the term.
The word “mistress” was always euphemism to make the subject of the label sound more favorable than they really were. More objective descriptors include “adulteress”, “kept woman”, “home wrecker”, and “contracted prostitute.”
You may be correct, but I think that’s irrelevant. He - the hypothetical subject - is still a whore.
Not just the very wealthy. When I was first in the service I was a dating a young woman whos dad owned his own construction company(not a huge company probably medium sized). I noticed after awhile that almost every Friday night he would get dressed nice and go out. Finally asked her what was up with that. She told me her mom had told her father, after the birth of her youngest sister (she had two sisters) that she didnt like sex and wasnt having sex anymore but if he needed to have it he could go out and have it. Her dad didnt want to divorce the mom and break up the family so he got a mistress.
OK, we’ll use “whore”.
Yeah, I believe that. But I have to think that is increasingly uncommon now. There just arent that many men who wouldnt just get a divorce in that situation.
How about Floozie?
Concubine?
Rough Trade?
“May we still refer to such a woman as a side piece?”
In “The Age of Innocence” by Edith Wharton a mistress is referred to as an ‘alternate establishment’.
That’s OK with me. Concubine is close enough to work.
Actually, it is not.
Men who sleep around are usually self-serving predators and/or insecure of their status as men.
Women who sleep around are usually seeking love and affection, making them easy prey for the men.
I taught my daughters that at a basic level, men are pigs. This is a more accurate term for men who sleep around. Nobody is going to start calling them sluts.
Back when slutty behavior by women was discouraged, most men were forced to rise above their piggish nature in order to have access to sex.
Unfortunately, women relinquished this sexual power in the name of liberation.
Maybe we should also not use the expression “tranny fluid” and refer to it now as “shift juice”.
... and I suppose “skank” is out of the question as well.
Why use the term mistress when whore is more appropriate?
Or course, everything was fine with that term until the UK's COVID stooge got busted.
This is wrong. “Mistress” makes it clear that she is being supported financially by the man, and that is the most important element of the definition. “Lover” or “Companion” don’t get across the fact that he is paying out the nose for this relationship. It’s important because it’s a plot device in many novels, and it’s an element in many real life situations over the centuries: Having a mistress leads to debt, having debt leads to corruption, and getting caught leads to ruin and the destruction of reputation. They are just dumbing down young students who already cannot read something from the 1800s and comprehend half of what is being said.
one with a mistress
