The problem is that without pretty concrete proof of a burglary, these two shooters are hosed.
If I see someone running from my neighbor’s house, having burglarized it, and I chase after them, and they get shot (even if they turn around and charge me), the law is not on my side.
For the most part, with very few exceptions, that level of neighborhood watch/vigilante justice is illegal.
Perhaps part of that is that many cops don’t like “civilians” doing their jobs for them (again, bless the exceptions, the only good burglar is a dead one), but if these guys don’t have some really good video, it’s going to be a long time in PYITA fed pen.
