Dave Greenfield, whose keyboard playing help give The Stranglers their unique sound amid the squall of late-70s U.K. punk, died on Sunday night of complications from the COVID-19 respiratory disease, the band announced. He was 71.
Greenfield played keyboards and sang with The Stranglers for much of the last 45 years, having joined in 1975. He co-wrote the groups biggest hit, 1981s Golden Brown, and was still recording and touring with the band prior to his death.

Amazing band. Hopefully he is now in a place where there is Always the Sun, and beauty is more than Skin Deep.
“died on Sunday night of complications from the COVID-19 respiratory disease”
Which, in plain-speak, means he died of something else, but since he may or may not have had COVID-19 symptoms, they are listing that as the official cause of death.
Still, a sad loss - Aural Sculpture remains as one of my favorite albums.
I knew it!
From the article:
Following a stay in hospital for heart problems, Dave tested positive for the COVID-19 virus last Sunday but he sadly lost his battle last night
So he was in for hear problems, but conveniently died of COVID-19.
It won’t get covered as one might think:

Sorry about his death.
Who are the Stranglers?
” Hopefully he is now in a place where there is Always the Sun, and beauty is more than Skin Deep. “
Best comment so far . I knew when posting that there would be those who would say it wasn’t the Wuhan virus that was the cause of his death . How much it caused his death I have no way of knowing . All I was doing was reporting his demise from a story a Facebook group posted .
my question as well...
Bummer, I had a couple of LPs
GOLDEN BROWWWWWNNNN
Did the attending physician have the brains to treat him with HCQ, Zinc, and ZPac???????????????????If he did not, lawsuit time.................
That's exactly what it means. Whenever you read so-and-so died of complications from X, it means they died of something else anywhere from loosely related to X to completely unrelated including medical malpractice.
This is one of their best:

“Brother, you better watch out for the Skin Deep”
Would he still be alive if not for COVID-19? Almost certainly. So I think its fair to call this a COVID-19 death.
Where it gets complicated is if the victim had other serious health problems. Would Greenfield still be alive if it were not for his heart problem? Again, almost certainly.
Im in the camp that says if its COVID-19 related, then its a COVID-19 death. An analogy: A thug pushes an old man down the stairs. The old man does not survive. Because hes old. Old age didnt kill him. The thug killed him.
P.S. Red China can go to hell.
I met that guy years ago when the Stranglers played in a bar in town. He was kind of heavy set but had an engaging personality and many rings on his fingers. RIP.
Im sorry , but why would you ever name of your band The Stranglers
Who ; the Rolling Stones ; Led Zeppelin ; the grateful dead - now those are good names
“Im sorry , but why would you ever name of your band The Stranglers
“Formed as the Guildford Stranglers on 11 September 1974 in Guildford, Surrey,[note 1] they originally built a following within the mid-1970s pub rock scene. While their aggressive, no-compromise attitude had them identified by the media with the emerging UK punk rock scene that followed, their idiosyncratic approach rarely followed any single musical genre, and the group went on to explore a variety of musical styles, from new wave, art rock and gothic rock through the sophisti-pop of some of their 1980s output.”
