Pro-mask-wearers say, "Glenn, you're a real arsehole for suggesting such a thing! Wearing a ring on the opposite hand does nothing to stop the spread of the Chinese virus!"
The pro-mask-wearers would be correct on both points. I am an arsehole (at least according to my bride of 35 years) and that wearing a ring on the opposite hand has nothing to do with stopping the Chinese virus ... but that's my point (except about the arsehole part ... I don't think I am one, but then again I'm a proud man and we all know what men are like).
According to the WHO which has not bought into the mask-wearing fad, wearing a mask is only slightly better (5 percent effectiveness) than wearing your ring on the opposite hand (although I admit WHO's website doesn't mention that last part.)
But the point remains: The way nearly everyone improperly selects, applies, wears and/or maintains their mask has little to no effect on transmission of the virus; however, improper mask-wearing does promote "herd immunity" by giving asymptomatic individuals infected with the virus a dose of courage and a sense of self-righteousness to venture outside with their portable security blanket (that is, their little mask) and infecting others ... the ironic part being they don't realize they're doing so.)
“You know you’re wearing your wedding ring on the wrong hand?”
“Yeah. I married the wrong woman.”
Oh, goody. My govidiot (Larry Hogan) created a mask mandate, so I don’t really see a choice going into the store. I proudly refuse to wear one outdoors — even if my govidiot mandated that, I would still refuse — and your reasoning gives me reason to continue NOT to wear one outdoors, even when I can’t avoid other people.
However, when I do wear one, I try to remember to inhale with my mouth and exhale through my now, which would hopefully keep most of the exhalation from escaping through the perpetually loose area around the nose and send it through the mask material instead to filter out some of the virus, should I be carrying it.
I don’t kid myself that a mask would protect me from catching it, and I would prefer to get the COVID sooner rather than later, though I do take other appropriate precautions, so that I could get it over with and be able to move freely about the country.
