Zoom is, I am told, Chinese controlled. Not too much of a concern for grade school classes, but I would not use it for business or financial purposes. Who knows where that information would end up?

A smartphone camera should be more than adequate. A pair of cheap smartphone cameras is part of the build for a DIY book scanner and renders images well enough to OCR.
Yeah, “Zoom” is just what the school is using, I myself have no use for it.
Agreed that the cellphone camera itself should be fine. I told my wife to locate a gooseneck with good reviews.
