Only because you specifically referenced me.
But since I'm here...
Status as I see it
- The lockdowns are gradually being eased. But we still don't seem to be prepared.
- I'd like to find a site that has graphs of daily new cases by state and/or county. If anyone knows of such a site, please let me know.
- The lock downs have successfully flattened the curve, but we haven't seen new cases drop.
- The lock downs have given us time to get some treatment regimens in place, HCQ + zinc, Gilead's drug, other clinical trials under way.
- I was hoping to see new cases drop to a level where the virus could be successfully traced and contained. Hasn't happened.
- We need more information at the local level on the extent of new and active cases, so people can judge for themselves how much precaution to take. Was glad to see Dr. Birx called for that info to be made available to the public.
- I'm not seeing masks or hand sanitizer in the stores. That's not good. I thought we would have production ramped by now.
- About 50% of people are wearing masks in the stores. Many are wearing bandanas as masks. Every little bit helps.
- Momentum towards wearing masks and requiring masks seems to be growing. That's a good thing.
- Airlines are finally requiring masks, something I called for 3 months ago.
- Georgia is being stupid about lifting the lock downs. But I guess miners needs canaries.
The choice is not between being scared or bravely going about your life as though nothing has changed.
The choice is between doing the right thing to minimize the damage the virus does to the community or not.
The "rights" argument is mostly specious. We had lock downs and mask requirements in 1918. It didn't result in a totalitarian state and the requirements were lifted as soon as the threat was gone.
The "masks don't work" argument is specious. The AHA advises medical workers their risk of exposure is low if they wear masks and goggles. Nature Medicine has an article saying that N95 masks are highly effective for coronavirus. Proving gas_dr wrong again
