I was an Air Frame Specialist (Aircraft Mechanic) in the Air Force in the late 70s, early 80's. Military aircraft are well maintained and spotless. When I got out and went to work on civilian aircraft, I was amazed how dirty and crappy shape they were in. I doubt this was a case of sloppy maintenance.
