It’s got to be Hillary. They never realized she would lose. They always double down. In their eyes she has too much power to be ignored, and they must put her on the ticket, either as the nominee, or Vice President nominee.
The charges against Biden have shoved the left into either dropping Biden, or placing her in as vice President. Either way, in their eyes, she will be President, and complete the destruction of our Republic.

You make good points. I’d also add that if she had announced at the beginning, there would have been pushback from the Democrat Party base about re-nominating someone who already lost to Trump. But if she is ‘forced’ to save the party after Biden drops out from a ‘medical emergency’ or the Tara Reid scandal, then the base is more likely to accept her as the reluctant warrior, brought back against her will to save the party.
With Bernie already folding on que, no messy primary debates where her rigging of the 2016 nomination will be brought up.
