This is a short thread I was involved in today. Notice how one poster tries to steer the language of the discussion, which literally started with the weather. Slight changes were made to remove mild vulgarisms, and to remove screen names, as NextDoor has region restrictions on access.
Rachel: WTH??? It seems mother nature is angry again and taking it out on us, she has decided to fry us like chicken.
Dr. Sivana:She must really be mad at the folks in Georgia, then, it routinely gets to be 100 and EXTREMELY HUMID in the summer. I moved to Phoenix in part because I like hot dry weather. But your mileage may vary.
Dennis: Mother nature wants us to stay INDOOR during the CCP- virus aka Corona virus-19
Rachel: Its official classification is SARS-COV 19
Dr. Sivana: Well, if you are concerned about the CCP-virus, it doesn't like hot weather. Of course, being outside is NOT an issue, being too close to other people who might be carrying it can be an issue. Going for a walk on a sunny day (not in crowds) is fine.
Rachel: Dr. Sivana, please stop calling it CCP-virus, that's not its classification or name
Dr. Sivana: This is Next Door, not a scholarly paper. It is a descriptive term, and I intend to continue using it, as people know what I mean when I say it.
Rachel: Dr. Sivana it is false information, spreading false information is dangerous
Dr. Sivana: Rachel, No. It is not false information. It is more accurate than a sterile number, as the CCP was largely responsible for its early spread by its disinformation and withholding of information ... well documented. Quick, what is the official name of the 1968-1969 Hong Kong Flu? (answer: A (H3N2)). Most of us will continue to call it Hong Kong Flu, lest it be lost in a sea of Hs and Ns. I think I will stick with the accurate and descriptive CCP Virus. You can use the bureaucratic terminology if you like.
Ha ha ha ha! Excellent! She took it well!
I provoke those types as much as possible into a spittling rage, and then I poke fun at them for being stupid.
I’m a Lead and Founding Member for our neighborhood ND app. We have 3 large subdivisions in our ND area. App states 59% are members which 1059 members and 798 households.
So I’m also an arbitrator of what is Remove, Consider Removing or Do Not Remove. Most are petty - a guy who has a gun range in his back yard, County Sheriffs have been out numerous times when new neighbors move in and call sheriffs. They make the call response and report to neighbor that his range meets all the county requirements - to their dismay. Or I arbitrated two religious posting of Christ has Risen on Easter Sunday. Both complaints by the same guy.
The Crime & Safety reporting section is very good, people will link to their doorbell Rings young adults checking car doors and swiping anything that’s loose. Or they will post vandalism, others are people coming to their door after midnite and later. At least, 2of5 times, someone’s kid will recognize them and everything is turned over to County Sheriffs.
Prob the best part of the app is the business section, it’s turned into my go to place for finding a contractor or business for repairs, services, etc.
Regarding the Wuhan Flu, which I have used on ND app prob twice, I haven’t received any push back from neighbors or ND. but ND does say in the community guidelines that coronavirus and COVID19 are the only “Permissible terms”.
