With a little bit of luck and persistence, a Colorado man has hit the jackpot twice after playing the same numbers for 30 years.
Colorado Lottery officials identified Joe B. as the winner of two $1 million Powerball jackpots on March 25. He claimed the winnings on Friday, NBC affiliate KUSA-TV reported.
The winning tickets were sold on Lake Avenue in Pueblo at two different stores, about a mile apart, officials said.
Joe B. bought a few plays in the morning and a couple more in the evening, communications director Meghan Dougherty said. Two of his plays, with his own numbers, hit all five numbers and the Powerball.
Asked what he and his wife plan to spend the money on, "Joe B." told lottery officials, "the Boss has plans for it."
The Colorado Lottery received approval earlier this month to process winning tickets worth $10,000 or more at a touch-free, drive-thru claims office amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Winners must make an appointment to claim their prize, or do so through the mail.
So, you hold about half of the winning tickets and get the 'vast majority' of the pot? Nice work if you can get it.
On odds of winning. Let's simplify it so your limited mental horsepower gives you a chance to keep up. Suppose you were the only entrant in a one digit lottery with four possible numbers. If you buy one ticket, what are your odds of winning? 1 in 4.
If you buy two tickets? 1 in 2. (If you select two unique numbers)
That's not a significant increase in odds of winning? Anyone who has ever walked into a statistics class learns the basics of how independent events work. You clearly don't grasp the concept.
I’d have a better chance of getting run over by a reindeer than hitting the Lotto.
So if I am thinking correctly. If he had bought only one ticket then he would have won a single 2 million dollar prize.
So he could have saved the cost of a ticket.
I play the same numbers every day, for many years. Once I won 6 grand, what a feeling. Chances are I’ve lost more than I won. Bottom line, you gotta be in to win it. You never know.
You are right. There is something not right with this story. All 5 + Powerball gets you the jackpot.
Are you a grandma? As the song goes...
I work the customer service desk for a King Soopers grocery store in Colorado Springs and sell lottery tickets.
Yup, he's married, all right.
