I’m getting more and more of the opinion that there is a strong genetic component to the politics and lifestyle one chooses. If that’s the case, the politics of these people will remain largely unchanged even with this experience.
Humans have an unbelievable ability for rationalization and for cherry picking facts which allows them to maintain their ingrained belief system regardless of how much reality beats them up.
Belief systems are a bit like spots on a leopard - they don’t easily change.
