“> Why would they need to be tempest? Do you know what tempest is?

Yes. Impervious to EMP.”

No. That is not Tempest. Not in the slightest. Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet. Most of it is written by underachieving morons.

If AOC is your bartender on the Honolulu-Angeles Express, then all the drinks are free!

“an idling diesel engine has the same rhythm as a purring cat?”

That tidbit seems to be ‘out there’.
Different types of diesel engines, two-stroke cycle, and four-stroke cycle also the number of cylinders.

If my ciphering is correct a 4 cylinder four-stroke idling ~800 RPM would produce 26.6 pulses/sec

And why would it be different than a gasoline engine?

Cats purr for reasons beyond contentment. Newborn kittens are born blind, so a mother cat will purr to orient her kittens toward her at feeding time. Cats also purr when they are sick or even in the process of dying as a self-calming technique. Cats purr at the same frequency as an idling diesel engine, about 26 cycles per second.

If saltwater is your drink, no extra charge.

Some 225 miles south east of SLC Union Pacific has approx. 140 engines parked in Grand Junction, CO. They’ve been there for the last three years perhaps longer.

3.2 MW can power 1000 homes using 30 KW each, which is a real stretch. The average at any one time is about 5 to 10 KW, but you need to have headroom for peaks and surges.

The pushing engine helps relieve the strain on the couplings on a long train. They would just put it in front with the other engines, if all they needed was the power.

I’ve seen really long trains with multiple engines front back and middle. Rail fans post them on YouTube.

4-5 years ago, there were about 4 dozens on the sides in the switchyard at Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Just a nit. I wouldn’t think that listening in on telecommunications would be “emanating spurious transmissions”.
EMP would fit better into that description.
