"The CDC also said we would have 2 million deaths They are a political organization pushing an agenda"

And we might have had 2 million without a lock down. 2 million was if we did nothing. We've got 58,000 with a lock down and growing. And we have potentially effective treatment regimens such as HCQ which we didn't have when the CDC made that prediction.

Trump quotes them. Does Trump have a political agenda? The virus is real. The virus is deadly. Not everything is a conspiracy theory.

Wear masks. At the very least it will make some other people feel more comfortable. You want the economy to recover don't you???

If I were some nefarious party that wanted to keep people scared and compliant, I would absolutely have people wearing masks everywhere, lest they forget for even one second that Death, DEATH!, waits for them at every turn should they have the audacity to take even the most tepid first step out of their doors.

I have seen people around here jogging and walking by themselves down empty streets, dutifully wearing their masks. There will always be many more sheep than there are shepherds.

I often observe mask wielding lemmings driving....alone in there car.

I’ll bet you that if you were able to take a survey of those with and without masks, the overwhelming majority of mask wearers would be flaming conformist socialists.

THAT is the most rational and cogent argument you've lodged yet. The Lamestream Media, through it's constant rebroadcasting of ChiCom propaganda about this Chuck Norris virus, has employees soiling their underwear in fear and half a tick from walking off the job.

This bit of facial kabuki theater may reassure enough of them that vital supply chains continue to work.

But from a microbe control perspective it's still crap.

I drove once with my mask on. I was going from one store to another 2 miles away. There was no point in taking it off.

If you have something better, you don’t need to do both — because the better supersedes the other.

The surgical mask is actually one of the highest tech accessories one should always have around. Survivalists know that; they know you can live a long time without eating, and even a long time without water, but air is critical to one’s survival. That’s why when you see those guys fighting wildfires, they’d be overcome by the smoke without that filtration — of even a towel.

The lungs are that critical. First they said that masks don’t work — when it is obvious, it works for many applications besides protecting against viruses. If you work around toxic chemicals, you need to wear a mask. If you work around a lot of dust and debris, you need to wear a mask. Many people around the world wear it because of the air pollution from traffic.

The surprising thing is that it helps to wear even during exercising — because it acts as a portable air purifier — just like a regular air purifier works. So the rationalization that one is only breathing in bad air trapped under a mask does not hold up. It’s actually filtering the air — and one of the objectives of exercise, is to get as pure air as possible deep into one’s lungs.

Most people are not aware of how much the air is polluted — because there are many people sharing that air — and it is not automatically cleaned once it gets out into a larger space — but actually lingers, and why we can smell cigarette smoking from quite a distance — or any smoke for that matter.

Some of the better masks have an extra layer of carbon specifically to eliminate odors. But what really gives them an advantage is the ease of putting them on and off — rather than improvising them from scratch each time. As for there being only a limited supply, it is probably the easiest thing to make — and if a premier productive society cannot produce it as a priority, it deserves to die.

Well I disagree with your microbe control perspective and intend to post a study that was on Nature Medicine showing masks do work for coronavirus later today.

No masks risk spikes and more lock downs. Don’t risk it, wear the mask. And make others more confident in the process by doing so.

The virus is real. To a very small percentage it is deadly. Wearing a mask changes nothing. If you feel morally superior wearing one by all means do so. But don’t expect others to follow your paranoia or need to be controlled

“If you can’t guarantee that you won’t come into contact with any vulnerable people or other people who come into contact with vulnerable people...”

Vulnerable people, or those likely to spend time with vulnerable people, need to avoid the less vulnerable - ie, almost anyone in reasonably good health outside of a nursing home!

“It’s not that hard.”

It isn’t. Let the vulnerable minimize their risk and let the rest of us get on with life. Or death - it comes to us all, eventually. Maybe tomorrow in a car crash....

So let those who need to be cautious, BE cautious

I’m recalling the old “tricky dicky” cartoon, and wondering how many people will get, ummm, cartoonish masks. Like say, the trunk of an elephant with a double chin.

And I could find nothing from the World Health Organization (WHO) recommending masks of any type unless you are caring for someone who has Covid-19. Their distancing recommendation was 3 feet. This dates from the 17th of April. https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses

Ok. Go in halvesies with someone and buy some pillowcases. Or go in foursies. Whatever you can manage. If you can't manage that, pm me your address, and I'll SEND you some fabric. Wait...never mind...have you considered using saran wrap?😝 JK

I’m with Trump on defunding WHO. They’re useless. They were against travel bans. WHO actions look like they believe their stock goes up if they can get a pandemic to spread.
