When Gielgud escorts the little girl to the crematorium and she is reunited with her mother and waves goodbye to him, you see him choke up, then before he goes down inside, he takes one last look at the moon... great cinematography...

The guy who played Hoess, the Auschwitz Kommandant, was really good in that too.

Yes Gunther Maria Halmer was great as Hoess. I think Wouk (who also approved the screenplay) with his painstaking research, captured Hoess perfectly. I also thought Topol was great as Berel Jastrow. I believed Meisner made a much better Hitler than Berkoff. Berkoff played an over the top Hitler and was not believable in most of his scenes.
