Rogers got paid Super-super-big $$$ when other QBs were just getting Super-big dollars, and that put a crimp on GB's spending.

Unfortunately, that doesn't look like it will stop. Mahomes is eligible for his next contract after this season, look for a $40 million reset if KC offers. A year later, Lamar Jackson will eligible to take an upgrade, $40+ million. Add in the left tackle and you're at $65 - $75 million per year for the pair in just 2-3 years.

I think the way KC deals with is by continually refreshing the RB pool with rookie talent. RBs peak early and get worn out, often by the end of the rookie contract. The current NF: labor agreement really messes up running backs, as they are spent by the time they get to cash in. Not everyone is going to be a patsy like the Rams (my favorite team) and pay ahead of time for declining talent (Gurley). Paying Mahomes premium money makes more sense than paying an okay QB $30 million (Cousins) and a premium RB to take pressure off (Derrick Henry type). Mahomes will be well worth the money. I typically favor old-school play, but Mahomes is an amazing talent and a pleasure to watch, and he's still improving his game.
