Just what I was thinking as I was collecting and thinking about how to organize the Pompeii images. Usually we get glimpses into the past but never the depth of insight the covering ash protected. For example, I never knew that it was common to have a mosaic of a chained dog at the entry to your house. Some welcome mat.
