SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS - the real unsung heroes, ignored and abused. Where is America?

Posted on 04/23/2020 8:33:16 AM PDT by BuckeyeGOP

We are bombarded by images and newstories of the heroes in all of this. Nurses, doctors, grocery store workers, truckers.

To me, what makes a hero is sacrifice. The people I've named above are no doubt making a sacrifice in time and work load, and yes, a greater risk of contracting the virus. They have been knighted by the media and society with unprecedented 'Hero' status. We are reminded everyday of their sacrifice. We are told that our existence depends on them. Replace the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan with nurses and doctors wearing face masks instead of camo and carrying thermometers instead of guns, rushing the beaches of Normandy to conquer an invisible monster...and you have the picture being painted by the media today.

But how much of a sacrifice is it? When this passes, they will still have their livihoods, they'll no doubt be temporarily worn out, but that will be softened by the constant reminder that they saved the world. In fact there is even talk of a ticker-tape parade in their honor in NYC.

Now let's look at small business owners. They have been told to shutdown, stay home, and deal with it. Not only are they not heroes but they quickly become villans if they dare show concern of their economic demise....dollars before lives!!!!!!...how dare you!

When all is said done, unlike the knighted official heroes listed above, their livihoods and everything they've worked for their entire lives will have been wiped-out...sacrificed for the common good. But unlike the knighted heroes who lost very little and still achieve a status equivalent to the WWll heroes that saved the world, we will be the Vietnam Vets that came home to boos, jeers, and chants of dollars-over-lives!

Let's not also forget all the other 'heroes' out there. The millions of people who have been told to stay home and work. You are a hero for sitting on your couch eating doritos and binge watching netflix. What's their sacrifice....? How about this? Today in Ohio, the $600 payment protection money is hitting the accounts of the unemployed. This money is back-dated too, so for instance if you signed up for unemployment 4 weeks ago, you received a $2400 payment to your account and that $600 a week will continue moving forward in addition to the unemployment check ....the govt has just given millions of 'heroes' that could come back to work a very good reason not to.

But alas, the government has thrown us small business owners a bone in the form of a 2.5 month payroll 'grant'. So let's assume you were able to get it after all the major corporations ran to the trough first, no one has addressed the issue that what good is keeping employees on if there is no business in the first place? Even if there is business, your employees have just been given one hell of a pay raise to tell you to fck off and sit at home.

Meanwhile, I watch these governors and politicians in their daily addresses continue to slather the thick syrupy praise on all the healthcare workers and couch potatos staying at home while they're tone turns dark and angry when a reporter dare asks about getting back to work and opening small businesses. Protestors who simply want their livihoods and dignity back are treated like they're part of a klan rally.

It's as though they are trying to destroy us, (small businesses). I honestly don't recognize this country any longer.

yup...

PPP still waiting for a loan.
SBA disaster grant? applied 3/31 crickets
UI for small business owners?
The state “has to write the software” to process payments. This is the same state that released MNlars after 10 years of development, only to have the system fall flat on it’s face... 3 years later. they are replacing it because it still does not work right.

thank god for AMX and Visa.. those two are gonna get me through, if business doesn’t recover I’d be bankrupt either way.

Well said and worth the read. BUT, to me the true heroes are all 6 feet under. The rest of us are trying to cope until that final day of reckoning.

AGreed, which is why I think all of us “Non Essential” citizens should be EXEMPT FROM ALL STATE TAXES going forward, and I wish there was just 1 wealthy sugar daddy willing to pony up a few million dollars to make it a Ballot Initiative.

I have no employees. we run our business with all family members. but I know people that had to lay employees off, now that they have managed to get a PPP loan calling them back is impossible.

why?

unemployment pays better than working.

We didn’t apply for PPP since all our employees are actually contractors. We did apply for EIDL on 3/31 and listed me and daughter as employees. Monday there was $2k in our bank account. Not that it will help a lot but I was shocked that it was there.
I applied for unemployment on the same day and got a NA from them Saturday or Monday. A big you get $0.

Great Post! We live under Komrade Kuomo who wants to blackmail the rest of the states (feds) into bailing out his horrific spending and policies over the last decade. He’s holding the economy hostage.

Fortunately I work for the county as their 911 and Sheriff IT administrator, however I also run my husband’s very small business which has slowed down significantly since this Dempanic, Hoaxdemic, Plandemic hit.

He has applied for the PUA? back in middle of March with nothing yet. Still “pending” I’m pretty sure he won’t get anything as this state is too busy covering dermatology and orthodontics for the “poor” via medicaid.

Yes, thank heavens for Visa and Amex! the SBA is worthless.

“unemployment pays better than working.”

My son is getting paid more now than when he had is job. But he wishes he had his job.

One of my young daughters said she is really busy at work.

“Oh - the older folks afraid to come in?”

“No - the kids my age that are taking sick days and getting paid for it. All the older folks want to work.”

“Well - I’m glad you are sticking with it.”

“Its great! I’m getting $2 an hour more for my regular 8 hours. And then I work another 4 hours overtime which they are doing at double pay now - and no limit on overtime hours as long as I’m keeping busy.”

(She was just named employee of the month. I hope she doesn’t run herself ragged and get sick. But she’s young - 12 hour days should be doable for awhile).

On the fair circuit, 12-14 hour days are every day at the fair...then comes slough night when its a 20-22 hour day, then drive to the next town after a coupld of hours sleep. Been doing that for some 25 years and we are senior citizens.

“unemployment pays better than working.”

Unemployment + CARE Act’s $600/week, that is.

A $12/hour worker can lay themself off for C19 fears, then get TWICE their work pay for sitting at home watching Netflix.

D’rats designed this, RINOs passed it and in a no-win situation Trump signed it.

Good rant.

“I honestly don’t recognize this country any longer.”

It got diseased in the 1910’s. It got ill in the 1960’s. It got sepsis in November of 1992. It became terminal in November of 2008. It’s now been put down with morphine.
