SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE — Singapore’s health ministry said on Wednesday it had preliminarily confirmed another 1,016 cases of the novel coronavirus, taking total infections there to 10,141.

The health ministry said most of the cases were among migrant workers living in dormitories, a group that accounts for more than three quarters of the city-state’s infections.

Singapore authorities on Tuesday extended a partial lockdown until June 1.

“I realize these figures are a bit lower than both JHU and worldometers. I feel that worldometers is getting a little too far ahead in NY and the numbers are not supported by official releases. JHU also includes 357 deaths in Veterans hospitals - are those double counted as state deaths too? Both also include 23 deaths from Federal prisons, 22 deaths of US military personnel and 3 deaths from the Grand Princess. Again rather than possibly double counting these, I’m setting them to one side for now.” - RK

Singapore’s contact tracing of covid19 cases is second-to-none.
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/grace-assembly-coronavirus-mystery-solved-mega-cluster-linked-to-2-wuhan-tourists-via-a

There were two mega clusters of covid19 cases that they couldn’t figure out how they were related. One was at Grace Assembly church/Missions Singapore (Jan 19) and the other at a Chinese New Year party (Jan 25). Turns out an asymptomatic tourist couple from Wuhan came to the church on Jan 19. One of the church members got infected by just sitting in the same seat(!!), spread covid19 at the Chinese New Year party on Jan 25. Two people at that party got infected and spread it back to church members (Jan 29-Feb 9). One church woman died. See the fascinating contact tracing diagram in this article.

Where the article ends is not the end of the story. One of those church members is a missionary. He travelled across the world to preach in at least 2 churches in a city. He was asymptomatic. In his wake, 34 people were infected. A few of them ended in icu, one was on a ventilator. How many did this missionary really infect? No one knows. From what I can tell, he’s still alive. They think the original wuhan infectious couple is also alive. Very sobering story.
