Something tells me that my comment on this thread might not go over too well:
“Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo to issue mandatory mask order”

My comment: “Sounds reasonable, about the only way to slow the spread.”
Coronavirus may live longer in one's eye than in other parts of the body, according to a Chinese report cited by Channel 13. The report stated that a Chinese woman was carrying the virus in her eye, while her nose was clear.
The woman, who is 65 years old, flew to Italy from the Chinese city of Wuhan where the coronavirus first broke out. She reported feeling sick on January 27 and quickly began to cough and experience high fever as well as an eye infection.
After 20 days of being in hospital, the eye infection cleared, but the virus was found in her eyes the next day. No virus was detected in her eyes or nose after that date, but on her 27th day in the hospital the virus was discovered again in her eyes.
The report claimed that the virus can replicate even when it is no longer detectable, meaning the infection potential exists even when patients seem to be healthy.
If Los Angeles was not in the process of blowing up, we would be sending the USNS Mercy to the Cruise Ship Port in Ensenada. I suspect as soon as he receives a request from President Obrador, Trump will send portable hospitals, ventilators, doctors and other help. He might even coordinate with CA Governor Newsom to provide the assistance. Liberal heads will explode, and the left will insist we should just open the border instead.
Do you have a source for that statistic?
Mandatory mask orders were common in the 1918 pandemic.
Also common were ‘anti mask leagues’ and ‘anti mask committees’.
During the first wave at least.
During the second wave they largely STFU and wore masks.
Agreed. Because everything *I* have read indicates that it’s older native Swedes that are dying and being denied medical care.
So much for ‘save the economy but protect the vulnerable’. Because SOMEONE is doing the dying in Sweden...and clearly whoever it is WAS vulnerable.
My wife told me last week that she had heard another Univ. of Oregon study on the same subject was coming which might adjust the predicted peak period, but I haven't heard anything about it.
The Wikipedia article on CV in Sweden has a lot of interesting details:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_coronavirus_pandemic_in_Sweden
They do have a significant number of restrictions in place, and most Swedes have used common sense.
It looks like they are not truly a poster child for “let her rip”...
I think the real poster child for that is Brazil.
No kidding.
You’d think, from the posters around here, that it was business as usual.
it is NOT business as usual there.
How many of OUR restaurants and bars would be profitable with the restrictions in place (people/occupancy) in Sweden? I bet very few.

Distinct Viral Clades of SARS-CoV-2: Implications for Modeling of Viral Spread.
Brufsky A1.
Author information
Abstract
Distinct viral clades have a likely impact on COVID-19 pathogenesis and spread. Sequence analysis from 2310 viral isolates from Nexstrain reveals that residue at 614 of the viral spike protein is changed from a putative ancestral aspartic acid (D) to a glycine (G) between two viral clades. The G strain is predominantly on the East Coast of the United States, and the D strain is predominantly on the West Coast. This mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 S protein spike is conserved in coronaviruses. Point mutations in a murine coronavirus spike protein can result in increased virulence through instability of the viral machinery and altered viral to cell membrane fusion. This observation may partially explain the discrepancy in predicted deaths from COVID-19 between the East Coast and West Coast, and possibly explain that other factors aside from social distance, such as competition between two strains of differing virulence, may be at play. On a different note, I just discovered today that my church is doing online devotions everyday at noon. Pretty cool. Im catching up now. For anyone else who is interested, its at https://www.facebook.com/pg/revolutionchurchga/posts/
You dont have to be a Facebook member to see them (Im not)
I wonder if they had flubros to contend with too?
BADASS LIFESAVER Incredible moment nurse faces off with Arizona lockdown protesters after saving lives of coronavirus patients
Yep, she's a "crisis actor", just like all the people who have "died". There is now a fringe segment of the conservative movement who think every major event, disaster, shooting, etc, is a hoax performed by "crisis actors". And there are more than a few right here on FR.
To be fair, these nurses went to the capitol to get pictures taken with people holding kooky signs.
It's not like they were coming out of a hospital and ran in to these folks. I suspect some of those
signs are leftists posing as "right wing kooks".
Oh, okay...I thought this was at a hospital. I should have read closer...thanks!
