I just finished an excellent book “Sink Them All” by Admiral Charles Lockwood, who was in charge of US submarine forces in the Pacific...I admit, I have always thought the image of a submarine coming into Pearl Harbor after a long, dangerous, and successful war patrol with the broom tied to the mast was one of the most interesting “Victory Marking”...:)
And of course, McCambell’s picture is CLASSIC!
