"Corona virus will change the world permanently"
That kind of talk spooks me. Most bad viruses wreak havoc for a year or so and then are pushed into the background by herd immunity and effective treatment options. If the left is touting "permanent" changes in response to this virus, it can only be because they see it as an opportunity for increased regimentation and authoritarianism.
What form will that take? Based on what we've seen so far, these are some possibilities:
1. Mandatory GPS monitoring of people based on their medical history, with possible lifetime limitations on social activity for designated individuals.
2. Further moves towards a cashless society and electronic monitoring and regulation of all purchases, with possible rationing.
3. Permanent restrictions on some religious practices, such as distribution of bread and/or wine during Christian communion services.
4. Increased censorship of media outlets or private individuals deemed to be spreading "socially harmful" or "incorrect" information.
5. Restrictions or bans on firearms in the name of "public health."
6. Fines or penalties levied against people who protest government policies.
7. An increased tendency to distinguish between "essential" and "non-essential" businesses or activities, with increasing restrictions on the latter.
