What you fail to understand is this basic thing. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Once a certain threshold is met, the ascertainment of more power is the only motivation. Mortality makes that those with that kind of power want to have it stretch into the future so that their goals will be achieved.

This is a product of the human condition and completely natural. It is the battle of good vs evil writ large.

You do yourself a disservice by thinking shallowly and not understanding the nature of man.

If I were an evil billionaire with unlimited power, and wanted to remake civilization, establishing a 'cabal' of like minded powerful people to accomplish those goals and carry that into future generations is EXACTLY what I would do. This is a no-brainer.
