Kirby’s comments from a screenshot, said: “If Hitler and everyone who supported him was removed from the face of the earth in 1939, the world would be a much better place” and that, “The same is more true of Trump and his supporters today.” At the council meeting, Kirby said he “absolutely” thinks Trump is a racist and that the Facebook posts have “nothing to do with my job,” the Auburn Journal reported.
Class-action libel suit -- is that a thing? Because we need to sue the simpleminded bigot a-hole out of existence. BTW, there are additional, earlier topics.

A few things for someone who lived in Auburn for many years and still lives nearby. First, this is sloppy reporting based on fake news. The linked article from the Auburn Journal is a few days old. All he has said he will do is to relinquish the rotating mayoral title. He is not resigning from the Council. Second, SunkenCiv, I’m a lonely voice on this forum, constantly calling on people to recognize I’ve that lawsuits are not magic. The essence of defamation is that you must be identifiable as a persons who has been defamed. All 98,000 people who voted for Trump in 2016 did so by secret ballot. If you get past that, everyone who has been defamed can get symbolic damages, typically $1. Beyond that you have to show that the attack on your character caused you damages, such as loss of customers, being ejected from your church, prosecuted for a crime you didn’t commit, etc. I think it’s fair to say no one suffered any cognizable damages as a result of this moron’s statements. Even if you get past these hurdles, which you can’t, the damages suffered by people would probably be so dissimilar as to preclude a class action.

Vendome, he says he’s not a rat, and his position is non partisan. Fine, though plainly he’s a big lib. I’d agree with you that A sincere apology would close the book. However, he’s expressly NOT sorry. Even if he were, allowing libs to get away with apologies while a conservative making comparable comments would be crucified doesn’t strike me as fair. Whatever the standard is, it should be applied to everyone and, in our society, that is definitely not the case
