The mayor of a Northern California city this week announced plans to step down after outrage erupted over recent social media posts comparing President Donald Trumps supporters to members of the Ku Klux Klan, Fox News reported.
The angry Auburn community, about 33 miles northeast of Sacramento, weighed in on Mayor William Kirbys controversial comments on Facebook during a virtual City Council meeting by video Monday.
Kirby addressed the controversy after several voicemails from residents were played.
I spent 40 years dedicating my life to serving the community of Auburn as a physician and through my volunteer efforts. Am I perfect? No. Were all a little flawed, Kirby said, admitting some of his recent posts were misguided.
In these trying times, we must turn to the greatest document in the history of the world to promise freedom and opportunity to its citizens for guidance. Find out more now >>
Kirby said in a statement to CBS Sacramento, Some people have viewed my posts, which were meant to be private and made out of frustration as over the top. Some were, and I regret that.
I want to share with you where my frustrations have come from, he said. He said that as a doctor, he sees nurses, respiratory therapists, other medical staff, first responders and my medical colleagues, as well as their patients, dying unnecessarily due to lack of preparation for the coronavirus. The president has put us all at risk.
In one of the posts, the mayor shared a photo of a Ku Klux Klan hood, with the caption, Good news for Trump supporters is that most of them already have masks, the report said. The post was later taken down.
Kirbys comments from a screenshot, said: If Hitler and everyone who supported him was removed from the face of the earth in 1939, the world would be a much better place and that, The same is more true of Trump and his supporters today.
At the council meeting, Kirby said he absolutely thinks Trump is a racist and that the Facebook posts have nothing to do with my job, the Auburn Journal reported.
Bingo...For a physician to post on the World Wide Web and then comment he thought it was private, proves he’s either a GD liar, or a really stupid individual.
You missed my point, and its because I was unclear: hes going to remain on the Council; they take turns being Mayor. His stench isnt going anywhere
now now. We just recruit and support. Same with Rush. We have to replace him too.
Nikki Haley? Don Jr.? Pence? Cruz?
Yes, I know. Right now they do not look too good.
How about guys like Trump?
Mark Cuban? who cares if he’s not an R, neither was Trump
His county voted for Trump in the last election by nearly 70%.
His choices were to resign or be hanged.
I disagree. It’s way past time to hold the libs to the same standards they impose on us. We all know what would be happening if a conservative said something like this. Make ‘em live by the same rules they make us live by. He can still be forgiven. My 2 cents

What a line of crock. Disaster planning goes up the ladder not down it. There was nothing preventing local and state governments from issuing their own health directives when it became obvious that SARS2 was present and escalating in their areas. Not only that I bet this doctor thought it terrible that travel restrictions were put in place by President Trump.
Why would you hang with people like that?
He can put on a facemask amd volunteer at a hospital and keep his trap shut.
I’m so glad everything posted on FR is private.
They are some of the kindest You would ever meet and willingly get quite a bit of themselves and their fortune to a wide variety of causes many of which I also support you paragraph I think some of them just get off on being social Justice Warriors because if you push him long enough and hard enough they almost end up falling to the same positions we have
Sure he is, he's going from top dog Mayor, to some city council stooge. And you can bet the rent, if his "Turn" comes up again, he'll never be the Mayor again.
In fact, I'd bet money his days being a council hack will be short lived.
Yeah - everyone I know puts their private thoughts, they don't want others to see, on Facebook...
Not trying to argue, just further FYI from a former resident: Auburn is a tiny place. Not sure exactly of the current population but its only around 20,000. So hell remain a big fish in a small pond. However this is a conservative county and Id warrant that Auburn, up in the Sierra foothills, is more conservative than what passes for substantial cities down at the edge of the Central Valley, Rocklin and Roseville. So Id bet good money that hes toast in the next election
Wow. And now hes dead.

Well, I said his days being a council hack will be short lived. Maybe it was suicide.
