Try jump/roll starting an automatic without a power source. Try having your car towed while in park. Wait for the auto trans to hunt for the right gear trying to get up a hill.
I had a car whose ignition key got stuck in on position. I could not turn engine off by key. I put my car in gear popped the clutch and held brake and stopped engine.
I was taken ill at work and hungry and tired..had to go to a bank for cash...battery had just died. Solution: park on hill close to bank.get money...jump start...get home. Recover. Waiting for a new battery to be delivered could have messed me up big time.
So a manual can be very useful.
