Might also be a genetic component. I read an article that said white people have fewer ACE2 receptors on their cells, and white women have the least of all.

They estimated that white women have only 50% of the chance for getting infected as does an Asian male.

But yes, it is my understanding the Italians are very hug-y and touch-y, and all that close contact would help spread the bug.
