This myth is only mostly true at the Gettysburg battlefield. Gettysburg has the most monuments and statues, perhaps because it was the most accessible to vets and the general public during the 1890s, and is still the best maintained in it's original state.
(Although, Little Round Top was entirely wooded over, the last time I was there, when in fact it had been lumbered off, in 1863.)

Here’s a true one: There are four of those. The others are in Washington in Lafayette Square, close to the White House, on the Capitol grounds in Nashville, and in Jacksonville Florida. The first three are the originals, cast in the 1800’s, and the one in Florida was cast in 1987.
