My son’s entire high school was online, and he loved it. He participated in sports, dances, homecoming, etc. with a nearby private school. I think a lot of his traditional school friends enjoy doing school this way, especially on days they finish at noon. They are realizing just how much of the day is wasted at school because of transitions, interruptions, and waiting on the slowest students to catch up.

This one really caught my eye...

...and waiting on the slowest students to catch up....

That’s what public school is centered around, anymore....lowering the pace/standard/expectation to the slowest learners.

Sounds like your son had the best of all worlds, with his experience. Congrats, to both of you.
