How many years between the confirmation of bending of light because of an objects mass(1919) and the existence of black holes (1971), which were both predicted\theorized by General Relativity. Given this dynamic, would you have said Einstein’s theory was unproven if you were living in 1970 and the black hole prediction (1971) had not been verified, but the bending of light (1919) had?
