Dr. Scott Jensen, a Minnesota physician and Republican state senator said he received a 7-page document coaching him to fill out death certificates with a COVID-19 diagnosis without a lab test to confirm the patient actually had the virus.
“Last Friday I received a 7-page document that told me if I had an 86-year-old patient that had pneumonia but was never tested for COVID-19 but some time after she came down with pneumonia we learned that she had been exposed to her son who had no symptoms but later on was identified with COVID-19, then it would be appropriate to diagnose on the death certificate COVID-19,” Dr. Scott Jensen said.
Dr. Jensen explained that this is not a normal procedure.
Dr.. Jensen said for example if the same patient had pneumonia during flu season and he didn’t have a test confirming the patient also had influenza, he would never diagnose the patient with influenza on the death certificate.
They published the good doctor’s rant as if it were law or policy.
Policy is for those who certify cause of death to use their best judgement by the preponderance of evidence.
That’s all they do anyway.
... but I don’t think there’s quite the scandal. It’s not comparable to testing for the flu, which can be done in 15 minutes. While Minnesota does seem to have a lot of testing, it’s still the old type that takes days to get completed. As long as long as the symptoms match Covid-19 much better than the flu, I don’t think there’s anything improper.
Imagine the reverse outcry, if patients that were known to be exposed to Covid-19 died of Covid-19 symptoms and were recorded as dying of something else simply because they couldn’t be tested!

You and the rest of the Coronavirus Groupies are going to have your pandemic no matter how the numbers have to be manipulated and massaged to get your desired outcome.
Pneumonia is a condition; Covid-19 is a cause. If Covid-19 causes someone to die of pneumonia, they’ll still show up on your chart.
I think what has astounded people is that your chart suggests that our efforts to defeat Covid-19 have done far more to defeat the flu and other causes of pneumonia.

I would note, however, that it seems (if I am interpreting what I’ve read correctly, and the reporting has been accurate) that there’s a chance that Covid-19 has caused other conditions (hypoxemia) that have been falsely presumed to stem from pneumonia.

And you know what I’m wondering now... If the numbers can be goosed up to suit their needs, was the death toll from Swine Flu in 2009 jiggered down for the same reason.
Sometimes I wonder if Ancestry.com should run DNA tests on some of us to see if we have common ancestors.

I bet the number of deaths reported as due to heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, pneumonia, other flu is way down.
What are the other causes of pneumonia? OK, well, influenza and strept, staph, etc.... Those tests takes 15 minutes so I presume they were tested for and found negative. Cystic fibrosis can cause a cold (often other coronaviruses) to turn into pneumonia, but that’s rather easy to identify.

You assume the data is accurately reported when the article gave a thesis why it might be highly misleading. Your response should have addressed the thesis of the article in some way

So the doctor can put coronavirus as the cause of death, even without any tests or symptoms before death, despite the patient having had other serious conditions like heart disease or cancer or pneumonia, and the CDC is going to add that to their coronavirus figures.
It's no surprise total deaths from Jan to March are down for both the US and Europe (total deaths this year are down even in Italy, which has the highest coronavirus deaths on the planet), despite all these massive coronavirus deaths they are claiming.
