That is a shame about J. Crew. At one time they sold high quality classic clothes without obvious labels and logos but I have noticed a dip in quality (and price point!) over the last few years.

Same with LL Bean. Their men’s clothing is overpriced for what it is: flimsy. $50 for a short sleeve sport shirt made in Vietnam. America could produce and market a better quality shirt and sell to the public for less money.

Like most large apparel companies, they have had to move production to the cheapest possible places - from Bangladesh to Ethiopia - to cover the staggeringly high major mall rents. Higher quality just sells too slowly.

almost everywhere has had noticeable dips in quality.

i used to find good quality shirts at kohls, about 10 years ago. it gradually worsened as vendors changed.
