Because for 14 to 21 days you can have no symptoms but you are able to infect others. And this virus is very easy to transmit.

That’s the hype, but not necessarily the truth. That was what was claimed in January. It’s not what is claimed now.

Nonsense! It’s NOT hype and they are still saying this, today. People can...have and are contagious while asymptomatic.

So far you’ve posted bs about this ^^ and the ‘quarantining of the healthy’ that are NOT true.

I’ve seen NO proof for either of these things.

WHAT extreme measures were taken for the flu in 2018, mojo?

I don't know. I was talking about the measures we've takin for Covid-19.

You know, the ones that have shut down the economy.

Even so Covid will likely kill more than the flu did in 17-18.

No one has “revised” them downwards...

Except for the CDC. In fact, the only reference I can find to your 80K number is a WaPo article from Sep 2018 referencing the CDC.

The current CDC page says 61k so I'm not sure who your "most" are.

The trend line on COVID19 is not following to exceed that number, not even close.

You do understand exponential growth, right?

But that 2 million weren't spread out all across China. They were concentrated in the infected zones. That makes their percentage of the local population to be much higher than the national average.

As someone pointed out in an earlier thread, if we average the testicles of a population, Americans on average have one testicle.

I think it makes a lot of difference to us as individuals if we happen to be in the small percentage that this virus kills.

right now the request is stay at home or six feet from someone, wear a mask, etc...

And, CJ Wolf, I have no problem with that as a suggestion. It’s when it turns into an “order” a “command” and more important an enforced “edict” that we are starting to see in many places around the country from some of these Progressive Leftist tin-pot dictator Governors and mayors. President Trump has been resisting.

I don't think we have the exact facts yet. As I said in an earlier comment. Don't believe first reports. Don't believe second reports. There might be some truth in the third reports, but you will often not get the truth until much much later than you think.

I've read many articles on this topic. How can you tell which ones are true and which are wrong? You can't always.

One of the "facts" that seems to have been confirmed by multiple stories is that in later stages, this disease presents like hypoxia. One article is claiming that the virus damages the blood's ability to carry oxygen.

We'll have to wait and see.

I’ve wondered if a Sunday would come when Christian churches would be invaded by the authorities, and members marched out and “dealt with”.

Sadly, this virus might be the impetus for that very thing to happen. It’s absolutely possible.

That’s a false statement. Actually, no one knows where those phones were. Those data were from the Chinese phone company, not specified for a specific area at all. Think about it. Wuhan has a population of 10 million. Then 21 million phones supposedly disappear. That could NOT have come from Wuhan or even Wuhan province. The claim it was only from that area is bogus.

“I am NOT willing to give up my essential liberty for a mess of safety as defined by bureaucrats. And yes, sometimes the cost is a few million lives. I’m even willing to expend mine if necessary. My forefathers fought too hard, some contemporaries of Franklin, to gain those essential liberties. My family has been here since the first founding of Massachusetts and we fought for this.”

Ditto to all! (And Amen, too.)

“Where’s the antibody test? I had this - along with everyone I know - in February!”

Four in our family think we had it in February, too — right after a cruise. At the time we didn’t consider WuFlu, but it makes sense now. I’d love to have the antibody test.

Thank you MayflowerMadam. I see too many Freepers here who are inline to buy their tickets to the concentration camps, or at least to the re-education camps the Progressives are all too willing to setup for them to be shipped off to learn better how to be sheep under their all too willing masters. They don’t seem to be noticing they are being fitted for the chains as they are being claimed around them. They are instead standing around saying “My these sure look good on me!” And the others are admiring the fit and finish of the chrome plating on their shackles.

Frankly, I am in shock at how comfortable they are with all of the trappings of fascism they are willing to accept as it drapes around them, and the excuses they are willing to mouth, fed to them by the mainstream media, unwilling to recognize the snowjob they’ve been blown.

They are the frogs, swimming in the pot, commenting on how nice it is being given a heated pool, and asking for a bit more warmth to the water as they paddle in bliss around and around its constraints.

I agree. it can get out of hand quickly, especially with our local power hungry leaders. We need to stay vigilant and avoid any box cars.

If we are going to err, i'd rather it be on the side of caution, especially with other information i've read about what has been happening in China.

Error begets error.

This shutdown is not without consequences. Some are just as deadly as the Wuhan flu

The elective surgeries that have been postponed can have deadly results despite their being termed elective.

My father-in-law needs his pacemaker replaced. But it is considered elective surgery. However, he is having periodic transient arrythmias that can lead to blood clots and strokes.

The economic consequences are also dire.

Millions of people in the hospitality sector are out of work. These people have lives that must go on but no income through no fault of their own. Rents will not be paid, loans payments will be missed.

The people that would receive that rent money also have lives and plans for that rent income.

People will not be making purchases that they otherwise would have made. Consumer demand is dropping like a rock (other than panic hoarder buying).

It will take years for the economy to recover the ground lost in this overreaction to COVID-19. The longer we wait to restore freedom to the country the more damage that will be done.

Many businesses that were closed by government fiat will never reopen. These businesses were people’s lives and dreams. The longer this goes on the more businesses that will be permanently closed.

The best is to get everyone into quarantine so the young can have their immunity.

You do realize that statement is contracting itself?

It will be SO much easier for the government to do it the next time a threat of some kind comes up, what ever it is. Ooooh, a national hang nail, shut down the economy!
