That’s actually not a bad idea.

For sure, if this involves the heme, it isn’t a ‘common cold’.

“As I was doing my search for alcohol fumes I came across the dangers of “huffing” alcohol. They heat up the booze and inhale it - goes right into the blood stream for a bigger rush/drunk or whatever. But it is real easy to O.D. as well.”

Ah, a warm snifter of brandy...

The earliest huffing.

From a commenter on Derek Lowe’s blog a few days back.
(Lowe is a PhD experimental anti-cancer biochemist. Careful with data and conclusions.)

I haven’t checked these out, but they seem interesting.

Regarding hydroxychloroquine:
https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/coronavirus/bahrain-hydroxychloroquine-success-response-covid-19
Other sidechain hydroxylated 4-aminoquinolines, ie. amodiaquine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amodiaquine , and its analog FGI-104 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FGI-104 , share antiviral properties that have been characterized as being broad spectrum, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2776286/ .

It is suggested that these compounds somehow interfere with the virus particles’ ability to hijack host cell’s membrane remodeling machinery ESCRTs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESCRT , needed to endocytize (internalize) the membrane attached virons into the cytoplasm , and then exocytosis or budding of newly formed virus particles from the host cell following replication.

Doesn’t acknowledge the time of Wuhan/Hubei introduction of the virus.
More important than any other metric IMO.

Just seems silly to me to ignore that. We know where the virus came from. The question of “when” it did matters.

the way his interview with Madcow sounded, Newsom was mobilizing Calif resources to produce instate and be able to export. However, this LA Times article seems a bit contradictory, and includes ‘sterilizing used masks’, whatever that means:

“a consortium of suppliers, including a California nonprofit, a California manufacturer with suppliers in Asia and from a company sterilizing used masks, according to Nathan Click, the governor’s spokesman.
The identities of those suppliers were not available Tuesday night...”

California - San Francisco

Data Data Data

SF finally shares crucial data on coronavirus hospitalizations, demographics

1. It provides no information for the nine people who have died of COVID-19. And for more than a third of all those who have tested positive, the race and ethnicity are not known. Overall, 21% were white, 18% Hispanic, 13% Asian or Pacific Islander, and 4% black.

2. Statewide, about half of people who test positive are under age 50; in San Francisco, 61% are 50 or younger.

3. San Francisco reported 39 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The city’s case count has been climbing about 3% to 10% daily over the past week, which is a much slower pace than two or three weeks ago.

4. As of Monday, 269 health care workers had tested positive statewide.

5. The number of people hospitalized and in intensive care in San Francisco has been climbing steadily. There were 58 people hospitalized on March 28 and 83 a week later, on April 4, the most recent date on the the San Francisco dashboard. Of those 83 patients, 37 were in intensive care.

Social distancing in a nuclear power plant? How Diablo Canyon is coping with coronavirus

...To date, no Diablo Canyon employees have tested positive for coronavirvus, Hosn said, noting PG&E has an incident management team that has “closely been monitoring attendance numbers” since late February.
The company has also been examining and updating its “holistic pandemic plan” — essentially its emergency response plan in the event of an outbreak — to prepare for every way the plant could be impacted by coronavirus.
This includes responses if certain departments and essential workers were to be impacted by the virus, she said.
