That works only if there are NO html commands anywhere in your post. If there are any at all, it won't "hot link". The FR post "html sandbox" lists a way to "hot link" when there are html commands in your post. It also tells how to reliably include a web photo in your post.
Yep.
I have been successfully posting images on FreeRepublic occasionally for years following the html sandbox instructions. The images I post are those that are on the Internet, not just something on my computer. Something has changed, however. Now I get a tiny symbol in my FR post instead of the image.
I can put the cursor on the tiny image that appears in my FR post and right click on it. A little window pops up with possible actions listed. If I click on the action: "Open image in new tab", the image pops up in a new window.
norwaypinesavage, I am assuming that you see the same tiny symbol that I see in my FR post. If you don't see the tiny symbol but see my image instead without having to "Open image in new tab", let me know. Maybe I am the only one that gets the tiny symbol.
Jim Robinson, if you see the tiny symbol too, you might need to get John to tweek the html sandbox instructions or how FR is responding to those html instructions so that the image comes up instead of the tiny symbol. Perhaps the problem is somehow on my end, not with FR. Thanks.
My post 13 on this thread shows the tiny symbol I get when trying to post the Covid-19 plot that I started this thread with. I had posted a picture of my Covid-19 Log-Log plot on Google Drive and followed the html sandbox instructions for posting an image that has an address on the Internet. But all I see in my post 13 is a tiny symbol.
I've been successfully using the HTML Sandbox to post photos for years. For some reason, the instructions in the Sandbox no longer work for me. I don't know whether something has changed in how the FreeRepublic software handles those HTML instructions for posting images or whether something has changed in how my computer system sends those "post this image" instructions to FreeRepublic.
If you would, you might try to post an image using the HTML Sandbox instructions and check whether it works in the preview of your post. If your preview contains the image you tried to post, then the image posting problem must be in my system somehow. Let me know how it comes out, please. Thanks.
