Actually, if you as a representative of the Chinese government believe that China's contributions to fighting the pandemic somehow disprove the theory that China caused the pandemic in the first place, then the sentence probably should read:

'Such reports explain China's significant contribution to global public health and safety.'

its not a new problem. Big question is why we allow labs like this to be funded at all at this point.
