So no one really knows what to think about anything.

At the risk of sounding haughty, I've always thought I had a pretty good ability to sift through events, public or private, and quickly get a handle on what's really going on beneath all the chatter.

I have no idea what to think about this coronavirus thing. My opinion swings like a pendulum, sometimes daily. Weirdest thing for me.

Same here. I was very conerned about getting this virus, then I leaned towards it’s all “overreaction and panic”...

...now it looks like MA will pass LA and Cali in number of cases.

Same for me. I think it is the scale of the thing that is throwing us off. For example, if there were news reports about an outbreak of some disease in Podunk, ID, and we walked around Podunk and saw no evidence of any kind of chaos, we would be comfortable concluding that it was all over-hyped BS. "Hey, there are only about 12 people in the waiting room at the hospital, and half the ambulances are just sitting there doing nothing. This crisis is overblown".

But they are telling us now that this is a GLOBAL pandemic, that major cities all around the world are overwhelmed and in chaos. We have entire countries that are effectively shut down. Government officials are giving news conferences daily on the situation.

If I were to evaluate what I'm being told simply on the information available, I would absolutely conclude that this is all overblown over-hyped BS. But it is the scale of it that gives me pause. The whole world can't be wrong, or lying, can it?

Well, perhaps the idea that it can is the last piece of the puzzle that would allow any of this to make sense.
