Just curious, given that the earth and venus move on almost the same orbit which elliptical...do you suppose the climate on earth is affected by how close or how far the earth is from the sun....

This is highly offensive! The authors should have written something more like

Those who have access to a small telescope with a wide-field eyepiece should see Venus as a tiny, weight enhanced illuminated crescent.
