Good question. Do you have any hypothesis for why Trump has done this? Usually discussions like this go better if the person raising the question has a hypothesis.
Regular deaths from other things we have no control over don't cause panic. It gets built into the normalization of lives.
We accept 60,000 deaths a year on average for influenza and puenomnia and 40,000 a year in auto accidents because it's "normal". If deaths were the rational for our actions we'd have shut down the freeways decades ago. I can't explain this mass hysteria in such a short time with almost no perspective being used. Maybe it is the end times. We have a "plague" and locusts in Africa and earthquakes all over suddenly (as reported like it's not normal when it probably is) etc. I'm 60 and we've had freak outs before but nothing near this level of economic shut down. It's going to very hard to come back from this. And governors and mayors of all parties are getting too comfortable dictating our daily lives. They won't stop.
