As the beleaguered Zaandam and Rotterdam cruise ships steam toward Port Everglades, more than 1,200 passengers on board still dont know what will happen to them when they arrive early Thursday.
Both ships are on the Port Everglades docking schedule for Thursday at 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Broward Health confirmed to the Miami Herald that critically ill patients will be transferred to the hospital system.
DeSantis alluded to a third ship on its way to Florida, the Coral Princess, which is expected to arrive to Port Everglades Saturday with flu-like cases on board. All 1,024 passengers are confined to their cabins as of Tuesday.

Several situations to be worked out since the cruise ships are carrying people from many countries and some have Covid19.
Stay tuned. -Tom

Issue everyone on board each ship a cycle of HCQ + Z-Pack + zinc supplements. Make it a large scale practical clinical test.

Land Ho!! At last..
We had quite the mix onboard the Coral Princess on a Panama cruise last November, lots of folks from all over. No issues on that trip. What a sad situation for all.

That industry is dead. The unbelievable bad publicity it has received in recent weeks will not be soon forgotten. It will not recover. Countries the world over refusing/reluctant to allow the poor bastards trapped aboard those Petri Dishes to dock and disembark and the sheer panic of those trapped on board is something they are very unlikely to recover from.

from the article;
The
Zaandam, owned by Carnival Corp.s Holland America Line, departed Buenos Aires, Argentina, on March 7,
one day before the U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned all Americans to avoid cruise travel.
The cruise was scheduled to end in Chile on March 21, but Chile did not allow anyone on board to disembark... -Tom

Agree, and I suspect the cruise companies had that figured out with the Japan boat. So, at this point, they are simply collecting as much cash as possible for their execs before they go Chapter 7.
By the way, there was some Mensa babe on this site with a cruise planned later this month. I told her at the beginning of March that it probably wasn’t such a good idea these days. Her response was that her superior intelligence (relative to mine) told her that going on the cruise would be fine. Wonder how she’s doing?

A high Intelligence Quotient test result does not necessarily equate to a High Commonsense Quotient result.

Thanks, just an arrogant SOB. But she’ll learn...we’ve been right all along, and the next time she’s able to plan a cruise (due to the industry having to re-constitute itself), she’ll be in wheelchair, if she’s lucky.

I can see both ships in the far distance from my terrace. They are sailing north, presumably in circles.

Well, where would you suggest dumping 300 Americans?

Looks like the critically ill will go to hospitals. The foreigners will go from cabin to buses, to planes and flown to respective countries. Usually the HAL crews are from Indonesia. My guess, those crew members wil fly to Schiphol and from there back home. Those crew members, some from Bali, are usually real sweethearts. The money they make from tips really helps their families. Love Indonesia, love Bali.

And plenty of State, Federal and local agencies plus politicians involved to really muddle the situation. -Tom

They will likely be interviewed, sorted, treated, and helped to get home or given temporary shelter locally. No one is going to be dumped.

But then again your original post was disgustingly shortsighted and displayed an unimaginative amount of problem solving capability.
You must be aware that there are about 20 cruise ships with no Americans aboard sailing around the Florida Straights looking for a Port. Shameful.
