From the IRS notice/information.

I am not typically required to file a tax return. Can I still receive my payment?

Yes. The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 to generate Economic Impact Payments to recipients of benefits reflected in the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 who are not required to file a tax return and did not file a return for 2019 or 2019. This includes senior citizens, Social Security recipients and railroad retirees who are not otherwise required to file a tax return.

Since the IRS would not have information regarding any dependents for these people, each person would receive $1,200 per person, without the additional amount for any dependents at this time.

Nope because FedEx etc. can not deliver to a US post office box and all government agencies use P.O. boxes for correspondences. I went through this with a fight we were having with Tricare. I was unable to get a large package, (medical claim documents for a retiree whose wife died after 120 days in the hospital), to Tricare because the FPO system at the Embassy would only allow 16 oz for incoming and outgoing mail. I finally had to send the package via FedEx to someone in the states who then repackaged and sent it to Tricare, (actually to the claims processor for Tricare, WPS).

That makes no sense... that’s exactly what it’s doing making up for i.e. lost income or it’s extra income for people that didn’t have it (SS recipients and retirees).

It makes tons of sense. We’ve just turned off 50% of our economy. We need people SPENDING MONEY. Badly. Doesn’t matter if it’s people who lost revenue in this just using the money to keep a roof over their heads, or people who haven’t heading down to the (when it’s reopened) liquor store and going crazy. SPEND MONEY, make the economy happen again.

The original intent here was why would the government give these checks to folks who are already retired and or on SS? Those people (me included) already live off our retirements, pensions and SS. Giving me a $1200 check ($2400 with the wife) makes no sense.

I’ve lost money in the Stock Market that I’m not happy about it but my monthly income hasn’t changed because of COVID-19, I expect the stock market will rebound eventually so giving me a check is wasted money. Spending wise we’re still spending the same, paying our bills and buying groceries at a normal not hoarding rate.

This is like giving the $600.00 in addition to those on unemployment.. makes no sense.

If you’re retired you’re old enough to remember Bush II’s “stimulus” thing. He gave us a bunch of money, to go spend it, kick start the economy, and get out of the recession. That’s really what this is. They can talk all they want about helping people with lost income and all that. But it’s a lie. It’s a stimulus package, here’s money GO SPEND IT.
