The coyotes we used to see at our ranch in Northeast Texas were always short hair and looked pretty scrawny and mangy. There were, however, coy-dogs, which were a cross between coyotes and dogs. Maybe if that was a coy-dog I could understand the thick coat, but it definitely looks like a wolf to me.

In this NM bloke’s experience, wolves have a bit thicker snouts/noses. The coyote’s is more longish, thinner & pointed—as is the case in this pic.

Wolves also have stouter bodies—thicker—not so longish & skinny.

Coy wolves. We have them here in central (M)assachusetts.

It’s a coyote. We shoot them in the winter for those thick coats here in the Rockies.
